Amid the coronavirus outbreak, residents in midtown Atlanta are trying to inspire some optimism.
Over the past few nights -- at just about 8 p.m. ET -- people throughout downtown Atlanta have taken to their balconies to clap and cheer in a show of support for the city’s “essential” workers like healthcare professionals and first-responders.
Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms announced Monday, March 23rd, that she has signed 14-day stay at home order for the city of Atlanta.
Proud Atlantan Manuel Rodriguez took to the #IamMidtown Facebook group to comment on a recent video of the movement: "Way to go Midtown!"
Rodriguez added, “Let’s keep showing our gratitude to health workers in the frontlines. Let’s keep it up. They deserve our appreciation. Every night. 8 p.m. We are in this together.”
Participants have reportedly said the movement was inspired by videos of Italians singing with their neighbors while on lockdown.
