UPDATE: Suspect in deadly hit-and-run of UGA student turns himself in

The Athens-Clarke County Police Department has confirmed that the suspect in a hit-and-run crash that killed a 20-year-old UGA student is behind bars.

Police said Donterris Gresham, 29, turned himself to the Clarke County jail Wednesday night.

Authorities said Gresham was driving a Honda Accord down Broad Street Saturday night when he hit and killed Ariana Zarse, 20.

Zarse and a friend were crossing the street at the time of the fatal crash. Her friend was not injured.

Shortly after the crash, investigators found the Accord involved in the crash, but the driver was nowhere to be found.

Gresham is charged with homicide by vehicle, hit and run involving serious injury or death, failure to obey traffic control device, too fast for conditions and driving while unlicensed.

He is being held without bond.
