Parents say assistant principal hit son in the face

Parents say assistant principal hit son in the face The parents of the fifth grader at Smith Elementary School called Channel 2 Action News to expose the alleged incident that they say happened Monday.

A Clayton County boy's parents told Channel 2 Action News that the child's principal slapped him and are demanding something be done about it.

The 10-year-old is a student at Smith Elementary School. The parents told Channel 2's Carl Willis they are demanding an arrest.

"What he did was just wrong," said Sherwood Ford, the boy's father.

Ford said his son was snatched by the arm and hit in the face by an assistant principal twice.

"(He was hit) hard enough to where his head snapped back and his teeth snapped together," Ford said.

Ford's son, a fifth grader at Smith Elementary School, called Channel 2 Action News to expose the alleged incident they said happened Monday.

They're upset because after giving statements, they say it doesn't appear the assistant principal has been held accountable.

"(An) apology to me is not enough," said Teresa Griffin, the boy's mother. "You have no right to put your hands on my son."

Channel 2 Action News contacted Clayton County Schools to get their side of the incident. They confirm that an allegation was received but could only say that they are investigating.

"I think he needs to be removed from the school, period. He needs to be arrested," Griffin said.

The parents said administrators mistakenly thought the boy was placed in what's called a silent lunch as a punishment but he was not in punishment.

They said he was sent out of the cafeteria and told to go to the office because he was laughing with his friends.

"Not because he was fighting, because he was laughing," Ford said.

The parents said they came forward because they want action and they don't want this to happen to other children.

"How can you keep your kids out of violence if they're getting taught violence at school?" Ford asked.

Griffin said she will now work to have her son transferred to another school.
