A 23-year-old woman, who was paralyzed in July's deadly shooting at a Midtown parking deck, is going home from the hospital.

Lauren Garcia, along with co-worker Tiffany Ferenczy, were shot as they were returning from lunch.  It happened in a parking deck at 14th Street and Crescent Avenue.  Garcia was left paralyzed from the waist down.

Dr. Brock Bowman, the Associate Director of Shepherd Center, says Garcia has had a remarkable attitude throughout the entire ordeal.

"I was pretty impressed by her fortitude you know, in a very trying time.  She's demonstrated that throughout.  She's really tried to focus on getting better and sort of what the next thing is without getting too far ahead of herself," said Bowman.

Bowman says he is optimistic about her recovery.

"We're hoping that in the future we'll see some return in her legs.  She's still at the very front end of her injury, meaning that she may improve over the next year," said Bowman.

Garcia has had a lot of support from friends and family.

"I know she's had great support from her family, co-workers.  I know she's very involved as an alumni of the University of Georgia, and she's been touched from a lot of friends from there," said Bowman.

Garcia's longtime boyfriend, Anel Camdzic, also proposed to her while she was hospitalized.  He took her to the top of a parking deck where he had spelled out in chalk, "Will you marry me?"

26-year-old Brittney Watts of Decatur, was killed in the shooting.   22-year-old Nkosi Thandiwe, a security guard at the Proscenium building where the women worked, is in jail on murder and aggravated assault charges.  Police are still trying to determine a motive.

MSL Atlanta has since offered Garcia a full-time position.  She will start as soon as she's able to later this fall.
