One Georgia city listed as one of top 52 places to travel in 2023 on NYT list

A recent New York Times list highlighting places for people to visit in 2023 listed Macon in a list of 52 cities around the world.

The blurb written by Travel Writer for New York Times Ondine Cohane, lists the city’s Native American History, which is highlighted at The Ocmulgee Mounds.

Native American tribes occupied the land for thousands of years and built mounds for their elite, according to the National Historic Park’s website.

The blurb cites Macon’s musical history Little Richard, the Allman Brothers and Otis Redding, who all began their careers in the central Georgia city.

The city is celebrating its 200th anniversary and is working on building a brand-new amphitheater located near the Macon Mall.

Other southern cities listed are Greenville and Charleston, South Carolina.
