Oconee County high school evacuated following reported threat

North Oconee High School was evacuated on Friday following a reported threat involving the school.

Officials evacuated the school out of an abundance of caution while the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office investigated the threat.

Nearby Rocky Branch Elementary School was also placed on lockdown as a precautionary measure. According to the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office, there was no indication of a direct threat to the elementary school.

Officials provided an update on Friday afternoon after completing their investigation.

“The school has been thoroughly searched and cleared, and there is no ongoing threat to students, staff, or the community,” said the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office. “The safety of our schools and community remains our top priority.”
