DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. — Douglas County leaders approved a developers plan to build a massive new data center that is expected to bring new jobs to the area.

The county approved several requests about the data center, which is expected to be constructed in the Winston community.

The project is expected to bring 200 new jobs to the community and boost the economy. However, not everyone is in favor of the data center.

Many residents spoke out against the development in 2024, citing noise, traffic, environment issues that it could bring to a relatively quiet residential community.

“Do you know how much riff raff that is going to bring being right next to an elementary school? They just talked about theft and that’s going to increase crime,” said one person who is not in favor of the proposal.

The facilities are expected to go online within the next 10 years, according to Douglas County officials.
