Smoke inside a Chamblee hotel led authorities to discover a meth lab inside one of the rooms.

Georgia Bureau of Investigations and local authorities are processing the room where the potentially hazardous materials were found.

Authorities say a person called police when he noticed a man trying to take some materials outside an Extended Stay America Hotel late Monday night.

When officers arrived they found smoke coming from one of the rooms.

"The fire department responded to a fire alarm here at the Extended Stay. When they arrived, they observed smoke coming out of a room and they encountered an individual as he came out of the room," said Chamblee Police Captain Ernesto Ford.

Authorities then evacuated the hotel.

Police say the suspect took off toward a nearby wooded area.

Investigators are still going through the room and expect to release more information later Tuesday.
