CHEROKEE COUNTY, GA — A man was sentenced to 23 years in prison for child sex charges in Cherokee County on February 4.

According to the Blue Ridge Judicial Circuit District Attorney Susan K. Treadaway, Joseph Franklin Dyson (37) and co-defendant Tessa Maryann Wilkie (27) pleaded guilty to the crimes after a nine-year-old girl came forward.

The little girl said she had been victimized by a friend of the family when she was seven years old.  In one incident, Dyson held a gun and instructed Wilkie to hold down the child to prevent her from escaping.

Dyson has been  sentenced to 50 years, with the first 23 years to serve in prison and the remainder to be served on probation. Wilkie was sentenced to 20 years with the first five years to serve in prison and the remainder to serve on probation.
