ATLANTA — The commute has been terrible for some people thanks to the 85 bridge collapse, and the drive is expected to be even worse come Monday when everyone is back from spring break.
A local company, Sensational Baskets, has come out with a new product called the "Traffic Survival Kit."
Helen Taffet with Sensational Baskets says the boxes will be stuffed with everything from bottled water to Alka-Seltzer.
“A bottle of water, a stress ball, pistachios, M&Ms, Skittles, pretzels, a granola bar, Alka-Seltzer and Advil,” will all be included in the baskets, Taffet tells WSB. “A stress ball’s always great when it takes you an hour to get six miles.”
Sensational Baskets specializes in assembly of custom gift baskets, with local and global delivery available.
Taffet says the idea for the baskets came to the retailer after Mayor Kasim Reed’s new conference on the bridge collapse Friday. “I heard that Mayor Reed suggested a full tank of gas on your commute on Monday,” Taffet explains.
Reed said that traffic and travel times could be 30 percent higher than usual on Monday, as many families return back from spring break and have to deal with the I-85 construction.
He added the commute will not be a “business as usual situation at all.”
Reed speculated traffic will be the worst between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The City of Atlanta will have a delayed start of 10 a.m. Monday for non-essential employees.
