Impaired driver charged after deadly fiery crash in Cobb County

COBB COUNTY, Ga — Cobb County police are investigating a deadly crash occurring Thursday night.

Stacey Miles Davis, 24 of Lawrenceville and Mya Smith, 23 of Powder Springs, were driving west on Veterans Memorial Highway Thursday around 11:18 p.m. on a Harley Davidson motorcycle, according to police.

At the same time, police said Donald Bryan, 42 of Mableton, was driving his 2020 Ford F-150 east on Veterans Memorial Highway when he attempted to turn left onto Cooper Lake Road.

Officers said when Bryan turned left, he turned into the motorcycle’s path. The motorcycle collided with the passenger-side rear of the Ford.

Police said Smith fell off the bike and landed in the right eastbound lane of Veterans Memorial Highway. Davis landed next to the truck’s passenger still on the motorcycle.

Both vehicles caught fire after the crash and were extinguished by Cobb County fire crews.

Officers confirmed that Davis was pronounced dead on the scene, and Smith was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital with serious injuries.

Investigators determined Bryan was impaired when the crash occurred. As a result, he was placed under arrest. Officials have not released the charges Bryan is facing.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to call the Cobb County Police Department at 770-499-3987.
