Holiday Health Alert: Doctors report increase in heart attacks between Christmas and New Year’s Day

ATLANTA, GA — Here is a health alert for the holidays: Doctors report a 5% uptick in reported cardiac arrests and ER visits jump as much as 15% between Christmas and New Year’s Day.

While it’s not exactly clear why, doctors say it could be a combination of factors.

They suggest stress, overindulgence in food and alcohol, skipping medication, years of bad habits, and even exposure to colder weather can put a person at risk.
