One person is dead in an officer-involved shooting in Avondale Estates.  It happened around lunchtime Friday.

The GBI's John Bankhead says the Avondale police officer shot and killed the suspect behind the Avondale Pattillo United Methodist Church on Covington Highway after the man took off.

"He did have a gun and apparently, according to what we know at this point, he was reaching for it, there was a struggle, so the officer shot and killed him," said Bankhead.

An employee of the church originally reported the suspicious man in the parking lot.
