COBB COUNTY, GA — The State Board of Pardons and Paroles has denied clemency for a man convicted of murdering two Cobb County realtors 23 years ago.

Officials say they thoroughly considered all the facts and circumstances of the case.

Testimony during the clemency hearing before the board for Stacey Ian Humphreys was held in private.

Humphreys was convicted of killing Cyndi Williams and Lori Brown in Cobb County in 2003.

Outside the hearing, Vanessa Griddine-Jones with Georgians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty previously expressed hope that the board would commute Humphreys’ sentence to life without parole.

That is the sentence 11 of Humphreys’ jurors initially chose before his attorneys said one juror bullied the others into changing their votes.

“We do believe people should be punished for crimes that they commit,” Jones said. “And there are horrible crimes out there. We don’t believe the state should have a power to kill a citizen of the state.”

Humphreys is scheduled to be executed Wednesday night.
