District Attorney announces update in case of girl who died after being involved in fight

Jada West 12-year-old Jada West died from a brain injury after her mother says she got into a fight with another student as they got off the bus.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, GA — The Douglas County District Attorney announced no charges will be filed in the death of a 12-year-old girl earlier this year.

Officials say Jada West had reportedly been arguing with another girl on the school bus before the fight happened at a bus stop in Villa Rica.

Atlanta attorney Gerald Griggs previously said West walked away from the fight, but her heart stopped before she made it home.

She slipped into a coma following the fight and died days later, officials said.

A Georgia Bureau of Investigation autopsy revealed that West had a genetic heart condition that led to her death and the family was unaware of it.

The district attorney’s office says they could not identify who started the fight.

West was a student at Mason Creek Middle School in Douglas County.
