Deadline extension for Cobb voters who didn’t get requested absentee ballots

An emergency court hearing Monday ended with a Cobb County judge extending the absentee ballot return deadline for hundreds of registered voters.

At issue was “a completely human error” that Cobb elections officials admit. Up to 1,036 absentee ballots requested in October were not sent out.

A group of absentee voters and the Cobb County Democracy Center filed a lawsuit against Cobb’s elections department over the weekend. The request was for an extension of the deadline, which was granted.

An elections office attorney says some of the absentee requesters canceled their request and voted in person. Of the remaining, the county overnighted ballots to more than 700 voters. Another 250-plus were to be sent out.
