Police are investigating after parents in Paulding County claim a school bus driver prevented their kids from getting off a bus.
“She suddenly just stopped allowing children off the bus, and some of the parents became concerned,” Assistant Chief of the Dallas Police Department Bill Gorman told WSB’s Jonathan O’Brien. “She moved the bus a couple of times, and there was a confrontation between the bus driver and one of the mothers that escalated.”
Videos posted on TikTok show the chaotic scene Wednesday afternoon near the intersection of Jimmy Lee Smith Pkwy and Old Harris Rd. as angry parents pull their children from the windows of the school bus.
“There was actually an older child on the bus, and he was actually handing the smaller children out the window to the parents,” Gorman explained.
Paulding County School District officials confirmed a substitute driver was behind the wheel of the Allgood Elementary school bus. “A large number of students typically deboard the bus each day at this particular bus stop,” the district said in a statement. “That process broke down as the substitute driver was trying to manage the release of younger students.”
Officials suspended the driver pending a review of the incident.
Assistant Chief Gorman says their investigation is ongoing, “there’s possibly going to be some charges filed in this situation.”
