COBB COUNTY, GA — Cobb County voters will decide in November whether to renew an existing one-cent sales tax that would fund more than $1 billion in projects across the county and its cities.
The Nov. 3 referendum would extend the current sales tax for another six years, beginning in 2028. If approved, the county’s sales tax rate would remain unchanged.
One of the largest projects included in the proposal is a new $174 million State Court building.
County officials say the existing courthouse is running out of space, with more than 160,000 people using the facility each year.
Officials have also raised security concerns about the current building, including hallways that do not separate inmates from members of the public.
The proposed sales tax renewal would also fund road improvements, a new aquatic center, two new fire stations and the relocation of the East Cobb Library.
Voters will determine whether to approve the six-year extension during the Nov. 3 election.
