Have you recently purchased a Fresh Express salad kit? You may want to check your refrigerator.
The company has voluntarily recalled a limited quantity of three variety salad kits.
The already-expired branded and private-label salad kits were made at a Fresh Express facility in Morrow.
The recall was prompted after a sample collected by the Georgia Department of Agriculture tested positive for the Listeria pathogen.
The salads recalled are the Fresh Express Caesar Chopped Kit, Chopped Kit Chipotle Cheddar, and Publix Makoto Honey Ginger Salad Kit.
The salad mixes were distributed through retailers in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The recalled salad items all carry product code GO75 and use-by dates of Mar. 31 or April 2, 2023.
The stores have removed the products from the shelves. Consumers are advised not to eat the products and toss them out.
Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Individuals may suffer short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.
