ATLANTA — Heavy rain and strong storms are expected to move in overnight and will have a major impact on your morning commute on Wednesday.

The system that is expected to move into Georgia overnight has already produced numerous tornadoes stretching from Texas through Alabama.

“The dynamics from this system are outracing the cold front. That is good news. We would love to see that,” Severe Weather Team 2 Chief Meteorologist Glenn Burns said.

Areas to the north and west of Interstate 85 are under a Level 1 threat for a storm Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning. Areas south and east of I-85 are under a Level 2 threat.

The biggest threats include damaging winds, heavy rain and lightning and a low threat for a possible tornado.

Here’s what you need to know:

• Showers and storms start moving into North Georgia late Tuesday night.
• Most powerful storms will move into the state around 3 a.m.
• Storms and showers will stick around through the morning rush hour.
• The storms will move out late Wednesday morning.

Temperatures will also drop after the rain and storms move out, but with little chance for any more rain throughout the rest of the week.
