Atlanta Fire Department seeking persons of interest in Walmart and Target fires

ATLANTA—Investigations have begun for Monday night’s fire inside the Target store located at 2539 Piedmont Road, as well as the recent fires at the Walmart store located at 835 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Howell Mill Road as cases of arson.

The suspects may have intentionally set the fires in order to shoplift, thereby creating a distraction, while shoppers and staff rushed to escape the burning stores.

The Georgia Office of Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, are asking the public to help identify two people of interest.

Investigators are not yet linking the two people to the fires though the motive for the fires may be the same. These fires have resulted in millions of dollars in damage and will cost even more for the repair and restoration.

The two Walmart stores have been closed since fires were set inside the stores a week apart in December.

Up to a $10,000 reward will be given upon the arrest and conviction of the arsonists to people who can help identify them.

Please contact the Arson Control Hotline at 1-800-282-5804 if you have any information.
