CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — The Georgia Bureau of Investigations is investigating after a multi-county chase lead to a shooting involving a deputy in Clayton County on Monday evening.
According to the GBI, Fayette County Sheriff’s Office found a black Jeep that was believed to have been stolen and used in car break-ins around 7 p.m. When deputies tried to pull over the Jeep, the driver, identified as 27-year-old Brian Hill, sped away and led deputies on a multi-county pursuit.
Clayton County Sheriff Levon Allen said that his deputies were called for help to continue the pursuit once it crossed into Clayton County, according to WSBTV.
The GBI says a passenger in the Jeep began shooting out of the window at officers, according to the GBI. The stolen car crashed into at least two other vehicles before crashing in the area of Tara Boulevard and Mundey’s Mill.
The GBI says Hill got out of the Jeep and ran across several lanes of traffic before he was taken into custody.
“During the apprehension, an officer shot Hill,” according to the GBI. Hill was rushed to a local hospital. The current extent of his injuries is unknown.
The female passenger in the Jeep was also charged. No officers were injured.
The GBI is conducting an independent investigation and will be given to the Clayton County District Attorney’s Office for review upon completion.
