Authorities bust counterfeit operation at metro Atlanta shopping mall

Arbor Place Mall

DOUGLASVILLE, GA — A major counterfeit operation has been shut down at Arbor Place Mall in Douglasville following an undercover investigation.

Douglasville police, along with Douglas County sheriff’s deputies, executed search warrants at 16 stores and kiosks inside the mall.

Investigators say they found a range of counterfeit items being sold to customers, including jewelry, sunglasses and cell phone-related products.

Police say the operation began as an undercover effort, during which investigators were able to purchase suspected counterfeit goods before moving forward with search warrants.

Authorities say this type of activity is becoming more common across the United States and that the operation was aimed at protecting shoppers in the area.

Officials also noted that the vast majority of businesses at the mall were not affected.

Police say charges against any owners or operators involved will be determined at a later time.
