Katie was a competitive gymnast when she was 7 years old. On average, was spending 6-8 hours practicing. Her parents started to notice that she was getting terrible, big dark deep bruises so they took her in for blood work. She was diagnosed with ITP. That was August 29, 2013. They said most kids get over it in a few weeks/months. It has been 19 months, she still not over it. Her case is extremely rare. There is no cure. She had to stop all activity – no gymnastics. Every 6 weeks to get treatment. And weekly goes to a satellite location to get treatment.
