For the third weekend in a row, scattered showers and storms will make their way through the Metro Atlanta area, potentially impacting any outdoor plans.
Without the rain, temperatures will be quite hot! Afternoon highs will climb into the upper 90s, close to the record highs on Friday and Saturday.
Below is the outlook for this weekend.
Football Friday: Sweltering Heat, A Few Storms Possible
The main impact to high school gams Friday night is the heat! Quite frankly, it will feel more like mid-July versus mid-September for this week’s games.
Afternoon temperatures will be in the 90s for any grounds crews setting up at 5pm. By kickoff, temperatures will still be low 90s, and they will eventually settle into the mid 80s by the end of the 4th Quarter.
A few storms may be lurking nearby. Keep an eye on the radar, as these storms may have the potential to produce localized flooding as well as damaging wind gusts.
Saturday: Hot, Scattered Storms Late in the Afternoon
Saturday won’t be a complete rain out, but rain showers and storms will be more likely compared to Friday.
Some of the storms may produce locally heavy rainfall that could lead to flash flooding, and damaging wind gusts cannot be ruled out.
Below is the Futurecast Radar for Saturday. The majority of the storms will develop after 2pm Saturday, but they will become more widespread through 6pm and eventually dry out after 8pm.
Without the rain, it will be quite hot! Afternoon highs will climb into the mid 90s through the afternoon.
Sunday: Partly to Mostly Cloudy, Pop Up Storms Return
Cloud cover will linger on Sunday, though enough sunshine will peek through to allow temperatures to climb to the upper 80s to low 90s through the afternoon.
Scattered showers and storms will continue to develop on Sunday, though the damaging wind threat will diminish and the coverage of the storms will not be quite as widespread compared to Saturday.
Nevertheless, it would be a good idea to keep a rain poncho or umbrella handy through the weekend!
