All week, long range weather models advertised the possibility of heavy rain showers for Metro Atlanta this weekend.
Now that the high resolution model data is available, the forecast is becoming more clear: Saturday will feature some dry hours, but Sunday will experience the majority of the rainfall.
Saturday’s Outlook
Saturday will feature cloudy skies but mainly dry conditions for the early morning hours, staying dry through 12pm. Afternoon highs will climb into the mid 80s, and a few pop up storms will develop with the heating of the day. A few storms may linger through Saturday evening.

Sunday’s Outlook
Sunday is a different story.
Widespread showers and thunderstorms will arrive Sunday morning and continue to move through Metro Atlanta into the evening hours.
Some showers and storms on Sunday may be heavy or slow moving, and some areas of isolated flash flooding are possible.
Overall, the forecast rainfall totals for the majority of the Metro Atlanta area will add up to 1 to 2 inches through Sunday evening.

A few isolated locations may receive up to 3 to 4 inches of rain if a slower moving storm sits over the region for an extended amount of time, and this amount of rain could lead to flash flooding.

Rainfall in October is always beneficial, as it is -- on average -- the driest month in the driest season of the year. Below is the average rainfall totals throughout the Fall months for the Atlanta area.
