Digital things to know during a storm

My name is Fisher, I am head of Digital for Cox Media Group's Atlanta Radio Cluster.  Over the past few days in preperation of the impending weather I have been on our stations giving instructions on how to get information and other fun tidbits.  Apparently some of you appreciated what I had to say, but just didn't catch all of it and have called the stations wondering what the heck I said.

I will preface any and all of this with I am NOT an expert so please don't email and bash me if you think I am an idiot.  These are some things that have gotten me thru life so I share with you.

  1. A.B.C. - Always Be Charging!  If you have power right now, you should be charging EVERYTHING you own that you will need if/when power goes out.
  2. When your devices reaches 100%, keep it plugged in until the power goes out.
  3. In fact, plug in your device and if you dont need it, turn it off.  It will still charge and not use juice if the power goes out until you need it.
  4. This next one applies to only some of you: If your computer is plugged into a battery back-up / UPS (Uninterruptible power supply), TURN OFF YOUR COMPUTER.  This will ensure your UPS is charged fully AND if/when the power goes out, as long as your internet still works, your internet (and hopefully you have a wireless router) can run for hours, giving you plenty of time to tell everyone on Facebook how your power is out and even get a game of 'Words w/ Friends' in.
  5. Make sure you download our app NOW and not wait. Or save our website on your phone.  Either way it will give you the ability to listen to our station, get traffic (you shouldn't be driving), weather, power outage 411 and MUCH more.
  6. Go ahead, I'll wait...get the app or save the link to our site.
