Now a resident of Norcross, Beth Zampieri was working inside one of the towers when planes were flown into the World Trade Center. She shares her story and explains how she has turned trauma into an opportunity to acknowledge heroes in the community.
Atlanta resident Matt O'Brien was in Lower Manhattan working at the Goldman Sachs building across from the World Trade Center Towers when the attacks took place. There's still a lot of raw emotion as he shares his experience that day.
NOTE: Some descriptions may be jarring to listeners. September 11, 2001 started off as a typical day for Dougherty County Coroner Michael Fowler, but 24 hours later, he would walk into an unimaginable scene. As a member of the worldwide Disaster Mortuary Operational Response Team, he pulled 12-hour shifts working on what was called "The Pile," the massive debris field where the Twin Towers fell. He reveals it’s the first disaster scene which ever made him weep, and how his faith buoys him.
For a whole generation of Americans, the question is not "where were you when it happened?" Instead, it's "who taught you about the attacks?" Georgia State University history professor Larry Grubbs teaches the attacks in his American History course and says it's vital for younger generations to understand the impact of 9/11.
