Reported by WSB's Jon Lewis

(WSB Radio)  He was a legend in Atlanta radio, writing, and wit.

Former WSB radio talk show host Ludlow Porch passed away early Friday at the age of 76 after suffering a pair of strokes.  Porch had a radio show on WSB from 1988 to 1991.  He was inducted into the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame on September 22, 2007.

"It's been a long journey, but it's been fun all the way," said Porch.

A local woman's life was changed for the better, thanks to Porch's show.  Nancy Jones was adopted as an infant, and didn't know her biological family--until she called Porch's radio show.  He had asked listeners if anyone needed any help with anything.

"Within a couple of weeks, he put me in touch with my natural family," Jones tells WSB.  "So I got to meet my birth mother, my birth father, my sisters and half-sisters and half-brothers."

If it had been any other radio host, Jones says, she would not have bothered to pick up the phone.  But she said talking to Ludlow Porch was like talking to your grandfather, which made asking for help that much easier.

Porch's real name was Bobby C. Hanson.  He was living in Dawsonville.

A website says his memorial service will be held at Big Canoe Chapel next Saturday February 19, 2011 at 2:00.  A reception will follow in the Broyles Community Center.

Bearden Funeral Home provided his official obituary, which says that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation in Alexandria, Virginia or to the  Georgia Radio Hall of Fame in St. Mary's, Georgia.
