Athens-Clarke County Police report the arrest of a suspect in the murder of an Athens teenager: 15 year-old Keshawn Gainer was shot and killed outside an apartment on Westchester Circle on December 3. 20 year-old Kenya Yearby faces charges that include malice murder.

The Athens-Clarke County Police Department announces the arrest of Kenya Trevion Yearby, a 20 year old Athens resident, for the December 3, 2020 murder of Keshawn Gainer. Yearby was taken into custody on December 8, 2020 by members of the police department’s Robbery / Homicide Unit and charged with malice murder.
“This senseless crime was solved quickly because of the dogged determination of the officers and detectives of the police department, the coroner’s office, the GBI, and a vigilant community,” stated Chief Cleveland Spruill. “The case will be turned over to the District Attorney’s Office for further consideration and prosecution.”
