Stolen vehicles tied to theft ring

A possible ring of identity thieves is uncovered after police say the state got a call about stolen vehicles with duplicate vehicle identification numbers.

"The Georgia Department of Revenue received a phone call from California regarding a VIN number of the vehicle which seemed to have been duplicated here in Georgia," said Gwinnett County Corporal Jake Smith.

The investigation led authorities to Ericka Williams, her husband Mark and her brother Sean Blow.  Smith tells Channel 2 Action News authorities searched a home on Sugarstone Drive and found five fake ID's with five different names all with a photo of Ericka Williams.

"Corresponding with those names they found a lot of mail, things like credit card bills," said Smith.

He says lists of people's names, birthdates and social security numbers were also discovered.

Smith says police also found four stolen vehicles in the driveway.  The three suspects say they bought the vehicles cheaply through a broker within the last six months.  Authorities are investigating their story.

They are each charged with eight felonies tied to the vehicles.  Police have charged Ericka Williams with an additional 10 identity theft counts.
