Police investigating human remains found near Henry County shopping center

Police are investigating the gruesome discovery of some human remains behind a busy shopping center in Henry County.

Investigators said the remains were found in a wooded area behind the shopping center along Oakwood Manor Drive in Stockbridge.

Detectives said that the remains belong to two different people. Henry County police and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are now trying to identify who the remains belong to.

“HCPD is currently investigating whether the remains are related to another investigation that began on 7/9/2021 which occurred at the Hudson Bridge Town Homes in Stockbridge. During this investigation, HCPD arrested 3 suspects who were all charged with Murder. All 3 suspects were booked into the Henry County Jail,” Henry County police said in a news release Tuesday evening.

Police told Channel 2′s Mark Winne they aren’t ruling out a possible serial killer in this case.

“So far you’ve got human remains of at least two victims, right?” Winne asked. “That’s correct,” said Henry County police Captain Randy Lee. “We are investigating leads that we have of additional potential victims that may be out there.”

“Are you talking then, about a potential serial killer?” Winne asked.

“We’re not ruling anything out. We’re taking this investigation where it leads us,” Lee said.

Police said they were able to make the three arrests after putting out a lookout for a car that had been driven by one of the missing women. The Bibb County sheriff’s office found the car on last week.

Lee says Dennis Lane, 41, Ronisha Preckwinkle and Cleonsee Fisher are all charged with murder and more.

One woman who stopped at the shopping plaza told Fernandes that the discovery was unnerving.

“Well of course it’s disheartening, you know, because something happened,” the woman said. “Good county, nice people. A lot of them have been there all their lives, 80 years.”

Indo Kumar was getting groceries at the shopping center and said it’s not hard to believe a crime took place there.

“The criminal activity has been going on over here for a long time in the woods. People coming in and out, drug activity been going on long time,” Kumar said.

Police said they remain in the preliminary phase of their investigation.
