The Laramie Foothills Bison Conservation Herd started about 3 1/2 years ago with 10 descendants from the Yellowstone National Park bison herd and now has grown to 76, with that number expected to double in just a few years, The Coloradoan reported.

The land they live on at Soapstone Prairie Natural Area and the Red Mountain Open Space has a capacity for about 100 of the large animals

"It's hard to imagine with 10 animals on the ground when we started how quickly we have gotten to the point now that we almost have too many animals,'' Jennifer Barfield, a Colorado State University reproductive physiologist who oversees the team caring for the herd, told The Coloradoan. "It's a good problem to have.''
