GWINNETT COUNTY, GA — A Gwinnett County woman already serving time for stabbing a man in 2022 has been found guilty in a cold case murder and sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Carmen Hunt, 52, was convicted in the 2019 stabbing death of a man prosecutors say she was trying to buy drugs from.

The victim’s sister found him dead inside his Lawrenceville home in 2019. The case remained unsolved for years until investigators matched Hunt’s fingerprints to a fingerprint found at the scene.

The Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office says clues from a separate 2022 stabbing helped investigators arrest and convict Hunt in the earlier killing.

Derrick Young survived the 2022 stabbing and testified during Hunt’s malice murder trial. Hunt later pleaded guilty to aggravated assault in that case.

During the murder trial, jurors were also shown police video in which Hunt could be heard saying, “You didn’t get away with this murder,” after investigators left the room.

Hunt was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
