DEKALB COUNTY, GA — Two DeKalb County police officers remain hospitalized Monday morning after being shot while responding to a domestic violence call Sunday evening.
Police say officers responded to an apartment in the 2000 block of Bouldercrest Road near Key Road, not far from McNair High School.
According to DeKalb County Police Chief Greg Padrick, the suspect, identified as Demontavious Soho, opened fire when officers arrived, striking two officers.
“Two of our officers were struck during the gunfire exchange. They were both transported to the hospital and are currently in stable condition,” Padrick said.
One of the wounded officers returned fire, striking Soho before he fled into a wooded area.
Investigators used surveillance footage from nearby cameras to help locate the suspect.
“We were able to get access to those cameras and get a very good look out for the person we were looking for. We were able to broadcast that look out and quickly bring him into custody,” Padrick said.
Soho was arrested and is receiving treatment for his injuries. He also faces multiple charges.
DeKalb County CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson expressed relief following the arrest.
“I’m just grateful that we have taken into custody the suspect,” Cochran-Johnson said.
She also urged residents to put down their guns following the shooting.
“In no circumstance should anyone walk into what our officers did,” Cochran-Johnson said.
Both officers are in stable condition and are expected to survive. Soho is also recovering from his injuries while in custody.
