GWINNETT COUNTY, GA — A popular Gwinnett County high school track coach is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from a booster club, according to school police.
Gwinnett County Public Schools Police say 52-year-old Matthew Henson was charged with felony theft after investigators determined he allegedly stole more than $65,000 from the Parkview High School Booster Club.
Police say Henson used a booster club debit card to make purchases for personal use.
Investigators allege the unauthorized transactions date back to 2018.
Parkview High School Police Lt. Gene Hamilton said the allegations surprised those who knew Henson.
“He was very trustworthy. They had no reason to believe that he was doing anything nefarious with the funds,” Hamilton said. “So, they really just didn’t think that he would be somebody that would do something like that.”
The investigation remains ongoing.
