Drivers in the north metro area will want to be aware of a bridge closure over a major interstate that starts Monday.

Channel 2 Action News was there overnight as crews shut down the Flowery Branch Road bridge over I-85 in Gwinnett County. The bridge is shutting down for the next six months.

The bridge is being replaced to widen I-85 between I-985 and State Route 53 in Jackson County.

Flowery Branch Road will be closed to thru traffic from Apple Grove Road to Lilly Stem Drive. Temporary traffic signals are in place for detours.

Triple Team Traffic’s Mark Arum says northbound traffic will be diverted at Spout Springs Road and southbound traffic to Braselton Highway.

NewsChopper 2 flew over the bridge Monday morning and we noticed several cars already turning around.
