WARMS SPRINGS, GA — The man accused of shooting and killing a Georgia police officer has been found dead, according to police officials.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation confirmed Wednesday afternoon that Jimmie Lee Steverson was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound after a traffic stop in Anderson, South Carolina.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says Officer Chris Fisher was killed in a shooting outside a motel shortly before midnight Tuesday.

Authorities had been searching for Steverson after the deadly shooting.

The GBI identified Steverson as the suspect on Wednesday morning and issued a Blue Alert. He had last been seen traveling in a 2026 black Chevrolet Silverado.
