ATLANTA — Georgia U.S. Sen. Raphael Warnock says Democrats must follow their midterm election victories with action to address the concerns of Americans struggling with the cost of living and access to health care.

Following Tuesday’s election results, which gave Democrats control of both chambers of Congress, Warnock told CNN that the party has a responsibility to deliver on voters’ priorities.

“Amidst these celebrations it should not be lost on us that everyday people have just been feeling crushed,” Warnock said.

Although Warnock was not on Tuesday’s ballot, he said the election results sent a message to elected officials about the challenges facing Americans.

“They were wondering, is there anybody listening? Is anybody listening to the American people and so that came with a very strong voice last night,” Warnock said.

The senator outlined several priorities for Democrats, including ending the war in the Middle East, removing tariffs to help lower costs and making health care more accessible and affordable.

Warnock also criticized the Trump administration, calling it the most corrupt in U.S. history and linking what he described as corruption to rising costs.

“The corruption and the costs are connected. We have to hold people accountable, but we must remain laser focused on that single mother, on that struggling young couple trying to buy a home, trying to buy gas, trying to take their children to school,” Warnock said.

He emphasized that Democrats should focus on everyday financial concerns as newly elected officials prepare to take office.

Warnock described the election results as a mandate for Democrats to address those issues.

“It’s a clear mandate and now it’s up to Democrats to deliver,” Warnock said.

Despite celebrating the party’s victories, Warnock said the outcome should ultimately benefit Americans across the country.

“Let me tell you who won last night, it’s the American people who won,” Warnock said.
