WOODSTOCK, GA — Registration is underway for a popular fall tradition that brings nearly 200 scarecrows to downtown Woodstock throughout October.

The city is celebrating the 18th year of its Scarecrow Invasion, with 192 spots available for this year’s displays.

Registration opened at 10 a.m. September 1 and is first come, first served. Woodstock Tourism Director Kyle Bennett says participants begin lining up hours before registration opens to secure their preferred locations.

“The earlier people in line got here 4-6 hours before we opened up, so they’re kind of camping out overnight,” Bennett said.

Bennett compared the demand for spots to buying tickets for a popular concert or game.

“Registration is a really big deal in Woodstock, I always compare it to a big Black Friday sale,” Bennett said. “First people in line get their first choice of spots.”

Bennett says pop culture is often represented in the displays and expects some of this year’s movies to inspire some of the scarecrows.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if we see some Odyssey, or Project Hail Mary, or Toy Story 5 themes,” Bennett said.

The Scarecrow Invasion has also become a major draw for downtown Woodstock.

“It really became one of the busiest times of year as the scarecrow events become bigger and bigger,” Bennett said.

The scarecrows will be on display throughout downtown Woodstock for the entire month of October.
