ATLANTA — The Atlanta Community Food Bank plans to pull $100k from reserves to help cover rising fuel costs as demand for food assistance increases.

CEO Kyle Waide said the food bank has seen increased demand before, including during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Waide said the current situation is creating additional challenges, including a lack of federal funding and rising operational costs.

“What we are dealing with now is similar on the demand side,” Waide said. “What is more unique this side is we’re also seeing this pressure on the supply side.”

Tractor trailers transport food to nearly 700 partner agencies across 29 counties, officials said.
