Rabies confirmed in dead raccoon found in DeKalb County neighborhood

DEKALB COUNTY, GA — DeKalb County officials have confirmed a new rabies case after a dead raccoon found in the Meadow Rock area tested positive for the virus.

County officials say it is common for several rabies cases to be reported throughout the year.

Earlier this month, federal wildlife officials distributed rabies vaccine baits across north Georgia to help prevent the virus from spreading among animals, including raccoons.

Following the latest confirmed case, residents are being reminded to make sure their pets are up to date on their rabies vaccinations.
