Protestors seek Gingrey's signature

It was an invasion of sorts in Marietta Monday. The objective was Congressman Phil Gingrey’s office and the attackers demanded he stop representing millionaires and start representing the middle class.

Perhaps it was no coincidence. As President Obama was taking on Republicans on their threat to challenge him on the debt ceiling, about two dozen political activists, union members and Democrats stormed Gingrey’s office, demanding to be heard.

“Us as middle class Americans, we’re fed up,” said protest organizer Sam Gonzales.

Like him, the protestors said they represent the middle class and they want Gingrey to represent them instead of millionaires.

They brought along a pledge for Gingrey to sign, one that declares he will represent the people who elected him, not rich special interest groups. After a brief confrontation with Gingrey aid John O’Keefe, the protestors selected a delegation and were granted a brief meeting, where they presented their pledge.

Gingrey was not at his Marietta office. He was in Washington. There was no immediate word on whether he would sign the pledge.
