We are in the middle of what’s being called the worst drug crisis in U.S. history.

An alarming new report from the National Security Council shows how the opioid crisis still has a grip on America. NSC's Prescription Nation report has been released and it shows how well each state is addressing opioid misuse and protecting residents.

Georgia is among only 13 states that have made improvements in the fight against opioids. While progress is being made, over 1300 people died in the past year from this opioid epidemic, according to Jane Terry with NSC.

A provocative memorial has been unveiled here in Atlanta. The memorial, called “Prescribed to Death,” is part of the NSC's “Stop Everyday Killers” campaign, which seeks to educate people about the risks of taking opioids.

The exhibit features a wall covered in 22,000 white “pills,” each with a face inscribed on it. The pills represent the 22,000 people who died from overdoses of prescribed opioids and fentanyl in 2015.
