SOUTH FULTON, GA — A resident was shot in the foot after two dogs charged at a Fairburn police officer during an incident in South Fulton shortly after midnight Thursday.

According to an initial incident report, Fairburn officers were investigating a report of a woman in the roadway in the 300 block of Bishop Road. Officers approached a home to get additional information.

When the door opened, two dogs charged at a Fairburn officer. The officer fired at the dogs but instead struck a resident in the foot.

The resident suffered a non-life-threatening injury. Fire Rescue and EMS responded to the scene.

South Fulton police said the officer who fired the gun was a Fairburn police officer. South Fulton officers arrived after the shooting, and the location was later confirmed to be within the City of South Fulton.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation.
