WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Pentagon will begin requiring male service members ages 30 and older to be screened for testosterone deficiency.

The Defense Health Agency released clinical guidelines for the screenings, which will take place during regular health assessments.

Under the guidelines, active-duty troops and reservists ages 30 and older will receive screenings and blood tests for low testosterone.

Service members diagnosed with testosterone deficiency will receive follow-up screenings and treatment if needed, including testosterone replacement therapy.

Male service members younger than 30 will be offered optional annual screenings.
