PEACHTREE CORNERS, GA — Peachtree Corners is launching a pilot program to keep pedestrians safe using artificial intelligence.

A flashing crosswalk outside Pinckneyville Middle School in Peachtree Corners is now outfitted with intelligent tech like cameras and sensors to warn drivers when people are crossing and warn pedestrians when there’s oncoming traffic.

Assistant City Manager Brandon Branham says it’s all about taking care of city residents and that there has been a lot of focus on vehicle safety in recent years.

Branham says many cities have installed flashing lights for pedestrians at crosswalks and the new tech is ready for future advancements in the auto industry.

They’re planning to expand it to other crosswalks. It can also collect data to help city officials determine just how safe a crossing is.
