Palmetto couple frightened after shots fired at home

Rapid gunfire shook a home as bullets ripped through two bedrooms. The homeowners are shaken and afraid to sleep in their own bed.
John Peek, 83, says the shooting happened on Wednesday. It was out on Carlton Road in Palmetto, Fulton County.
"It had to be 12, 15, 18 (shots) within about two seconds," said Peek.
Evidence markers and dust from bullet-riddled Sheetrock litter the couple's bedroom. An investigator returned Monday to drill holes in the wall to recover bullets.
Peek has lived in his house for 39 years, but he says the loss of their sense of security has his wife wanting to move.
"I will not let a situation like this drive me away from my home," he said as he choked back tears.
Police believe the gunfire came from an apartment complex across the street, according to Peek.
He was told that the shooters were aiming at a car that was right at the top of the hill facing his home.
He said it was little consolation that he was likely not the intended target.
"That big one that went through there -- I wouldn't have even had a head left," he said pointing to the bullet holes above his bed.
He says police recovered the bullet-riddled car that was the intended target, but so far there have been no arrests and little cooperation from witnesses.

Peek says he wants whoever robbed him of his peace of mind to be found.

"My wife's a basket case still; she wanted to leave that night," he said. "I said I'm too old to move."

The owners of the nearby apartment complex say there have been three shootings there in the past three weeks.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS. Callers may remain anonymous.
