An extra lane has opened for comuters headed southbound on the Georgia 400 between Mansell and Holcomb Bridge roads.

Georgia DOT spokesperson Mark McKennan says that means motorist are going to have to exit and enter the highway a little differently, "we are converting those exit only lanes to a continuous thru lane."

McKennan also says when this whole project is finished, "the auxillary lanes between McFarland and Holcolmb Bridge will be used as travel lanes."

The changes are the second low-cost measure the state has taken to improve traffic flow on the north-south artery in recent weeks.

The idea is to create more roads without construction.
