ROSWELL, GA — Mosquitoes trapped at two parks in Roswell have tested positive for West Nile virus, according to city officials.

The Fulton County Board of Health notified the city that mosquitoes collected at Roswell Area Park and Garrard Landing Park tested positive for the virus.

In response, the county’s mosquito control contractor is treating both areas using spray trucks. Crews treated a quarter-mile radius around the affected areas Tuesday night and are scheduled to spray again Wednesday evening, weather permitting.

The spraying takes place at dusk to avoid affecting other pollinators and is said to be safe for people and pets.

Additional testing will be conducted after the treatments to determine the next steps.

The positive tests in Roswell follow several cases of West Nile virus reported last month in the city of South Fulton.
